Earth Science

Physical Science

  • Observe and record the magnetic interaction of materials, the relationship between magnets and electricity, and demonstrate common electrical safety rules

Earth Science

  • Identify natural resources, enabling students to make wise choices regarding conservation especially in the hydrosphere
  • Explain how science and technology affect our society
  • Describe how water exists in three physical states of matter and describe the uses of water
  • Identify sources of drinking water

Social Studies

History

  • Identify and describe key factors in Michigan History in each period: before statehood, statehood to 20 th Century and 20 th Century to present

Geography

  • Identify key locations on maps, globes and charts
  • Examine the relationship between Michigan’s climate and economy
  • Explore the geographical significance to the Great Lakes Region, focusing on land formation and bodies of water
  • Analyze the relationship between Michigan’s ecosystem and it’s development as a state
  • Compare and contrast Michigan to other regions in the United States (natural resources, land formation, bodies of water, climate, etc.)

Economy

  • Correlate the availability of resources to Michigan economy
  • Develop an understanding of the supply and demand and it’s impact on production
  • Analyze how science and technology have and continue to impact Michigan

Government and Politics

  • Identify and explain core democratic values
  • Describe the functions of the state government
  • Identify the rights and responsibilities of citizenship
  • Identify the process of becoming a state

Culture

  • Explore how past events affected the lives of those who lived in Michigan
  • Explore how different ethnic groups have and continue to impact our society
