7th Grade Curriculum

Religion

Scripture, Doctrine and Church Teaching

  • Know that Christian Scripture is divided into four main parts; Gospels, Acts of the Apostles, Epistles/Letters and Revelation
  • Understand that Jesus is the Word of God
  • Explain that Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit
  • Recognize how we come to know Jesus as Son of God and Son of Man

Prayer and Worship

  • Show reverence and respect for Scriptures and the written word of God
  • Understand how readings included in prayer services and liturgies are selected
  • Demonstrate the relationship between faith and culture
  • Use formal and informal prayer to express personal and communal spirituality

Christian Life, Service, and Stewardship

  • Reflect on the life of Jesus and Beatitudes when making choices
  • Read, interpret and apply Scripture to daily life

Types of Writing

  • Develop and practice numerous types and styles of writing
  • Improve composition and critical thinking skills utilizing the writing process

Spelling

  • Correctly spell high frequency and cross curriculum words
  • Correctly spell the derivatives of bases and affixes in the context of their own writing

Grammar/Mechanics

  • Using capitalization and punctuation rules, present work in a neat, legible, and organized fashion
  • Apply the eight parts of speech
  • Identify and apply verb tenses and conjugation of regular and irregular verbs

Oral Communication

Listening

  • Identify techniques used effectively by speakers to inform, entertain, and persuade
  • Listen critically to information presented orally

Speaking

  • Organize thoughts and speak with correct sentence structure, fluency, and expression
  • Utilize visual aids effectively
  • Deliver oral presentations individually and in a group format

  • Describe and identify the history, structure and composition of earth’s features and the forces that change it over time
  • What makes up weather and explain what causes the different weather patterns
  • Describe the water cycle and analyze the impact on life on earth
  • Composition of the atmosphere and the forces within the atmosphere that affect weather patterns and the effect of human interaction on the weather

Life Science

  • Explore the relationships between different ecosystems and classify the living things they contain
  • Discover the structure and function of different cells, how they grow, develop and reproduce within an organism
  • Classify organism into major groups based on their structure
  • Observe how traits are passed from one generation to the next

Physical Science

  • Measure, describe, and classify types of matter and energy and the changes they undergo
  • Describe how and why objects move as they do
  • Compare and contrast mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves

Space

  • Learn how technology and scientific inquiry helps us learn about the universe
  • Learn how science uses theories and evidence to explain the origin of the universe
  • Explain observations made in the day and night sky
  • Explain how stars and planetary systems form and how stars produce energy

 

Social Studies

History

  • Identify and describe the key factors and events of American history from the period of Exploration to the Civil War
  • Evaluate critical turning points in history and assess their implications and consequences

Geography

  • Correlate the availability or resources to a region’s economy
  • Identify key locations on maps, globes, and charts
  • Understand the significance of the geographical make-up of the US and its development as a nation
  • Recognize and distinguish between countries and regions of the world and how their location affects the US

Economy

  • Examine the historical impact of the US government on regulation of commerce and trade
  • Develop an understanding of supply and demand and its impact on production
  • Project how their personal financial choices impact the world economy
  • Describe the relationship between trade and the interdependence of nations
  • Describe the mechanisms of a free market economy

Government and Politics
